At Méditerranez-vous, you learn French differently: the morning lessons, based on comprehension and oral expression, prepare you for the afternoon workshops-encounters: there, you practice your French speaking with a farmer, social worker, young Gypsies or people from Maghreb, a school teacher or a French aristocrat. This gives you the unique opportunity to understand “from inside” how the French society and culture operate.
- Your hosts:
Sophie Véricel, teacher and Director of Méditerranez-vous, is qualified in teaching French as a Foreign Language. She has 25 years of experience in teaching French including 18 years in various foreign countries. She created Méditerranez-vous in 2008 to promote original, practical, active and fun teaching.
- Your accommodation:
The school provides homestay accommodation. The hosts have all been carefully selected for their desire and keenness to share the French culture with you. You will be welcomed “as friends”, take part in their daily lives, meet their friends, go with them to the movies, restaurant, etc. You will be accommodated in a comfortable single room (with or without bathroom) to ensure a pleasant stay. Depending on the option chosen, you will share breakfast and/or dinner with your host, a convivial but also active exchange in French. You may also rent a self-catering apartment or stay in one of the two hotels selected by Méditerranez-vous.
The activities are all included in the programme, because they are part of the courses.
They take place with the teacher in attendance. They may include:
- lunch and dinner in local restaurants or at your host’s home
- meetings with locals, immigrants, Gypsies, elected council members, artists, history or oenology enthusiasts, wine growers, shepherds, journalists, unemployed people, etc.
- visit to a farm, artist’s workshop, or school
- visit to a region near Montpellier (les Cevennes, le Larzac, Roquefort, villages in the hinterland, etc.)
- cooking in the company of a “chef”.
Capital of Languedoc-Roussillon, Montpellier is a vibrant student city that appeals through its way of life, love for culture and party spirit.
Founded in the middle ages, on the road to Santiago de Compostela, Montpellier is a medieval town in which the first Medical University of France was founded. It remains a university city welcoming students from around the world which lends it dynamism and vitality. Montpellier is nicknamed the “city where you never go to bed”.
The centre, entirely pedestrian, includes elegant 17th and 18th century town houses, numerous cafés, shops, terraces, restaurants, and markets where it is nice to stroll.
Located 10 km from the Mediterranean Sea, Montpellier is a sunny destination! The surrounding region is also particularly rich in terms of excursions: Cevennes mountains, Hérault gorge, vineyards, medieval villages, etc.
Lastly, Montpellier is a cultural Mecca hosting many international festivals: contemporary dance, theatre, classical music and jazz, etc.
The key Méditerranez-vous’ success is immersion: you will also have the opportunity, during the lessons, to chat with French people about their work and daily lives. As Marcus, former student at Méditerranez-vous, emphasises: “The strength of the concept lies in the encounters with French people who all have a story to tell.
